Complex Angioplasty with Rotablation at CerebrumCor Clinic
Here at CerebrumCor Clinic, we specialize in high-tech cardiac procedures like complex angioplasty with rotablation—a new method that can treat severely calcified coronary artery disease. Supported by experienced interventional cardiologists and state-of-the-art facilities, we provide customized cardiac care to help you live a healthier, longer life.
What is Complex Angioplasty?
Angioplasty or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is a procedure used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries without surgery. Traditional angioplasty includes inflating a balloon inside the artery to make it bigger and typically placing a stent to keep the vessel open.
Although, in certain instances, plaque formation in the arteries is not only widespread but also heavily calcified, and therefore can be difficult or even impossible to treat with standard angioplasty techniques. In these cases, complex angioplasty with rotablation takes over.
What is Rotablation?
Rotablation, or rotational atherectomy, is a new technology for the excision of hardened, calcified plaque within arterial walls. The procedure uses a tiny drill-like device known as a rotablator, which spins at extremely high speeds (up to 200,000 revolutions per minute) to slowly erode the calcified deposits. Rotablation restores blood flow through the artery and makes the artery a candidate for successful balloon angioplasty and stent implantation.
How Rotablation Functions
Access: The femoral or radial artery is entered with a catheter and threaded to the heart.
Placement of guidewire: A guidewire of unique properties directs the rotablator to the site of blockage.
Removal of Plaque: The diamond-coated burr, which spins at high velocity, abrasively grinds the hardened plaque into micro-particles, which are harmlessly carried away in the blood.
Stent Placement: After the removal of the plaque, a stent is inserted to maintain the opening of the artery and avoid re-blocking.

Benefits of Complex Angioplasty with Rotablation
- Effective stenting of hardened, calcified blockages
- Improved success rates for stent placement
- Reduced risk of procedural complications
- Improved blood flow and heart function
- Early recovery as compared to open-heart surgery
Is the Procedure Safe?
Yes, if performed by expert hands, rotablation is a tolerable and safe procedure. Like any medical intervention, it has some risk, e.g., vessel injury or slow heart rate temporarily. However, at CerebrumCor Clinic, we conduct careful pre-procedure checks to eliminate all potential risks.
What to Expect During Recovery
The majority of patients can be discharged within 24–48 hours. You may have to refrain from heavy exercise for a few days. We will provide meticulous aftercare instructions and schedule follow-ups to monitor your heart function and stent status.
Take the Next Step Toward Heart Health
If you have coronary artery disease or have been told you have calcified arteries, complex angioplasty with rotablation could be valuable to you. Don’t wait—prompt treatment can save a life.
